Working together to protect Bali

27 Feb 2026 | Environment

In Bali, protecting the environment is a major challenge, closely linked to health, living conditions, and the future of local communities. At ANAK – Aid to Indonesian Children, raising awareness among children, teenagers, and their families is an integral part of our commitment.

BALI FACING ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES

A true island paradise, Bali has been facing a growing issue for many years: waste management – especially plastic waste.

Across the island, and particularly in coastal villages, waste accumulates rapidly. Tourism, fishing, public health, and daily life are all directly impacted.

In response, ANAK leads real awareness and community-driven actions, working alongside local stakeholders.

A CLEAN-UP DAY IN AMED

On February 3, 2024, ANAK organized a large-scale plastic waste collection initiative in the village of Amed, in collaboration with several environmentally committed partners.

Alongside Bali Autrement and Peduli Alam Bali, sponsored children, their parents, and local fishermen came together. Nearly 160 people mobilized to take action.

Spread across different areas of the village, participants worked together to clean natural spaces while raising awareness about the impact of waste on their environment.

A powerful collective effort, filled with meaning and hope.

RAISING AWARENESS, SHARING, AND LEARNING

The day continued with a shared lunch at the ANAK center, in the presence of the Bali Autrement team.

It was a valuable moment of exchange, during which children and teenagers practiced their English, asked questions, and reflected together on the environmental challenges they face every day.

These moments of dialogue are essential to reinforce awareness and encourage long-term responsible behaviors.

THANK YOU TO OUR COMMITTED PARTNERS

We would like to warmly thank Bali Autrement and Peduli Alam Bali, as well as all the participants – sponsored children and teenagers, parents, fishermen, and volunteers – for their energy and commitment throughout the day.

WHAT’S NEXT? CONTINUING TO TAKE ACTION TOGETHER

ANAK aims to continue and strengthen its environmental awareness initiatives, in collaboration with other committed organizations across Bali.
We would be delighted to develop future projects alongside organizations such as Sungai Watch or Bye Bye Plastic Bags, in order to keep taking measurable actions for the preservation of the island and the future of younger generations.
